A North Tyneside Private Hire Driver has been fined by magistrates after failing to renew his badge  whilst still working.
The driver  pleaded guilty to charges brought by North Tyneside Council of driving a private hire vehicle without a licence and using a private hire vehicle without insurance.Appearing in court on Friday, 28th of March he was fined a total of £100, £50 on each charge, ordered to pay £150 costs and a £15 surcharge. He was also disqualified for 28 days.
Two enforcement officers from by North Tyneside Council’s Taxi Licensing Dept. observed a Vauxhall Vectra private hire vehicle driven by the guilty party drop off passengers in Shiremoor on December 1, 2007.
On being asked to show his badge the officers found it had expired on October 31, 2007.
By Driving a Private Hire Vehicle with an out of date badge his Insurance was void.

It was subsequently found that he had been working as  as a private hire driver for four weeks since the expiry of his badge up to the time he was approached  by the enforcement officers.
