HMS Ark Royal, returned to  the river Tyne today.
The through deck cruiser/aircraft carrier came alongside Northumbria Quay in North Shields today (Thursday, January 29).

Her five-day visit will no doubt create some work for local Taxis as well as Newcastle Taxis bringing the crewmembers back from a night in the Toon.

The Ark will be open to the public from 10am until 3pm on Saturday, for visitors.
The ship’s crew – many of whom are from the north-east – will be on hand to answer questions about their experiences in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

Her visit will also include a number of other activities, including a first-night VIP reception for 250 invited guests from around the city, with the Lord Mayor and Lord Lieutenant as guests of honour.

There will also be visits from invited schools and colleges, sea cadet units, local contractors and other maritime associations during Ark Royal’s visit.

Ark Royal will leave the Tyne Monday, February 2 at 7pm, She will then sail to Portsmouth for a period of refit, before resuming her role as the UK’s strike carrier.

@SOS,
I am probably wasting my time writing back to you as you have probably just spouted off some cr*p, but for the record do you honestly think that all the Ark Royal’s crew are from Shields???, NO is the answer, these Guys dock all over and will expect to pay much higher than a NT Hack rate anyway, Hacks in certain Scottish Port towns start at £3.80, North Tyneside Hack rates are one of the Cheapest in the Country if you do your homework, anyway £12.20p in a Berwick Hack from the big two, direct to Whitley Bay, I would say that was a “Rip Off”!!!!!, at Central after 22.00hrs a Journey from the Royal Quays to Whitley is only just over £7.
Yes I picked a lad up and he told me he paid £12.20p to Whitley Bay in a Berwick Car, and he can identify a Berwick Car because he was originally from Alnwick!
So you are spot on the Hacks have been ripping people off..Berwick Hacks I assume you were referring to????
Regards
