I’d be asking to see the evidence that you were parked and not just waiting in traffic, I’d also ask to see a photo of the driver as you are unsure who was driving the car that night, its worked on the old type of speed cameras to the point all new one take a photo of the driver head on

Yet again the Police have a new flavour of the month, this will be someone looking for prommotion & having set up a operational order to make himself look good. Give it one month & the Police wont be bothered anymore & it will be down to the traffic warden wombles during the dayshift. The only time the Police wll enforce this is when they are quiet & looking to boost their monthly figures for government statistics.
I agree with the point above that they will have to submit photographic evidence & they wont have time to do this on night shift, especially when all they want is the drunks out of the town & couldn’t care what sort of cab they get into. It would be nice to think that it will free up more spaces in the town for Hacks & the berwicks, gateshead & private hire will park in designated parking bays out of the way!!!!!
However if you dont submit info within 28 days to cops, they will prosecute the owner of the vehicle who will be fined roughly £100 & get 3 points for failing to supply driver details.

In reply to Dave thompson`s comment,he is quite correct about the driver must supply his details within 28 days,or be prosecuted,BUT,as with my earlier comment concerning parking, don`t hand it to them on a plate.
If we obstruct roundabouts, traffic lights, road junctions etc, then we deserve tickets,if we use some sense when parking, then we have a right to appeal to magistrates over unfairly issued tickets.
Such as having to park on yellow lines due to the council`s policies.
Anyone who gets a ticket for parking(sensibly, not on junctions),I would say should appeal the ticket,I certainly will.

@dave thompson, I think you are wrong about ‘flavour of the month’ as this is Newcastle Councils way to fill the gap in their budget after taking massive cuts in Government funding. Taxi Licensing is openly directing the Police to prosecute anybody who parks on double yellow lines, day or night. Not only that but the Council is utilising cameras in the City to prosecute illegal parking, hence people are getting fixed penalty notices without even knowing they have been caught. Double yellow lines have been painted all over the city. This is a blatant money making exersize and it is not going to go away. The town Hacks will have to act on this as there are not enough Rank spaces available to avoid being prosecuted for illegal parking. The double yellow lines around the City came into force yesterday and also a 20 mph city wide speed limit so drivers could also be faced with speeding tickets if caught driving in excess of the 20 mph limit!

Thanks for the comment Admin, yes we know all about the `yellow lines` in town,it`ll be interesting to see who many of our `yellow belly taxi drivers`who say they will support the association, but privately couldn`t give a toss, pay the tickets.
I`m NOT for 1 minute suggesting that anyone breaks the law,BUT,I would suggest that if the council`s blue bottles,or Police start issuing tickets as some suggest they will, then we all appeal the tickets through the magistrates court,as we have a right to do.
If every driver who is issued a ticket, due to insufficient ranking space, appeals,we might get something done.
Incidentally,I have heard of drivers parked/ranked on certain roundabouts, and obstructing road junctions and ped Xings, all I can say to then is….use your brains lads, that sort of thing justifies a ticket, and REMEMBER..ped crossing offences carry £60 fines and 3pts.
Dont hand it to the authorities on a plate, lets be sensible, remember Plod has usually given us leeway, they can use their discretion, even if Savage,Weighman and co dont.

@SC, If i was a police officer i would be onto blueline who continue to use the old firestation as a car park and the rest of the ph operators who use the co-op as a pick up point… monday i had to get out of my car to ask a female ph driver to move so i could get past, funny how she didnt just move a few yards forward though, she sped off into the distance, what was she sitting therefore i wonder?? and surely that can be classed as an unnecessary obstruction of traffic????!!!

@dangermouse, Blue Line use the old Fire station as a Pre booked pick up point, we have done for years, and as we dont obstruct the Police in their operations or the road, not really much for them to be onto us for?

@SC, The Fire Station has only been closed for 4 years!
Lots of people do things for “years” it doesn’t mean it’s always okay! I regularly see PH sit there and pull away empty,on the one hand yous are saying that the public vote with their wallets an take PH, on the other you seem to get a lot of ‘no jobs’particularly from the Fire Station or do your bookings only turn up when theres no Hacks about?

Newcastle city council is taking massive cuts in government funding and they lost millions of tax-payers money in the icelandic banks? to recoup their loss we became easy pray to fill the discrepancies in their budget by directing and encouraging the police to issue tickets and encouraging taxi-licensing office m.o.t inspectors in Newcastle upon tyne to be pedantic (mr lurch) to recharge for a full test(£53.10 x2= £106.20. we taxi drivers are already struggling for the little work there is left in town and we do not get a pay cheque like them at the end of the month busy or not especially in this economical crisis…

@Davy, yes we get blanks from the fire station, it part of the job, we get blanks all over town, but unlike many Hacks, I dont sit there thinking somebody else is taken my work a way, I move on the the next job, and If I see and cant prove a PH driver is flimpping I report them.

As for getting alot of no jobs, I’d say on a weekend night i’d expect to get 5 to 10 “no jobs”

As per my previous comments I was told last night by a good friend that the police aren’t interested in cabs parking on double yellows as long as it is done with common sense & not blocking the whole road, it is down to the council & parking officals to enforce it & it is those who have the cameras & will be trying to do as many people as possible to get cash in.
However I know that the council have just covered the whole town in yellow paint & haven’t as yet put up prohibited signs, so if you get a ticket & there is no signs yet errected nearby it is invalid & you can contest it & there is a good chance that you will win as issuing a ticket without informing the driver of the offence (via sign) is illegal. Good luck!!!!

NEWCASTLE HACK February 20, 2009 at 6:33 pm

@dave thompson,Time will tell if your right or wrong. At the moment I think your wrong as I my self was told to move on when parked in a parking bay after 7pm on grey st & not causing a obstruction.Just waiting quiatly to get on the two car rank along with the other 15 drivers trying to make a living.Maybe some of the drivers are right. We should go & park in the civic centre and see if all the staff there just go home as them there selves will not be aloud to make a living.
