Easy! Give everybody that gets smashed a ‘Free Taxi’ home. Only the British could come up with this one whilst all and sundry are trying to tackle the problems of Binge drinking, alchoholism & drink related violence. A Free Taxi for drunks “mmmm!” thinks the industrious British youth “If I don’t have to pay for a Taxi, I can have a couple more drinks, I wonder if the Council will pay the soiling charge when I puke in the cab aswell?”

Anyone else watching this story, it’s where I live, and concerns a 1/2 mile stretch of road.
The road has lots of problems come chucking out time, on fridays/saturdays especially, so the “cure” is to reward the drunks with free taxi’s home.
The police say it doesn’t affect the public purse as the police are paying for it, and the council are paying half, but not the public ?
The local mayor says it is a good idea, as “young ladies when drunk are vulnerable, so need help”.
I’m disgusted by it, it is a cover up for the complete lack of policing in this town….
You got to love the joined up thinking of local government, first off they do all they can with petty regulations to kill the pub trade, forgetting that the very taxes raised by those buisnesses pay for all the bin police, eco crime reporters, curtain twitchers and transport managers on half a squillion quid a year; then they announce that they will give drunks a free ride home: Blogger newportcity
