A TAXI driver was left with serious facial injuries after he was assaulted by two men he dropped off in Bedlington.
The 28-year-old victim had picked up the pair outside Toon takeaway in the Cloth Market, Newcastle, at 1.30am on Friday, July 9.

The men had asked the driver to take them to an address in Bedlington, but as they approached the requested location they asked to go to Red Row Drive.

On arrival, the pair left the taxi, telling the driver that they were going inside a house to get money.

When the men failed to return, at around 2.15am, the driver went to look for them and found them hiding in a back garden.

He was then assaulted before the men made off.

The taxi driver was treated in hospital for his injuries and later released.

The two offenders are described around 24-years-old.

One was tall and the other was short and one had dark hair and the other had light hair.

Inspector Ross Davidson, of Bedlington police station, said: “This has been a serious assault on a taxi driver simply trying to make a living for himself.

“We have a number of inquiries to make regarding this incident and I’m confident we will be able to identify the offenders.”
