Unfortunately Insurance is a thing we must all have to be lawful, but if all the Ambulance Chasers were not allowed to file large claims for accidents that probably did not occur in the fashion that is being stated, people not trying to claim whiplash or some other injury when still physically fit etc, we may just start seeing the American Culture of where there is blame, there is a claim, STOP!!!!, but it is a problem that is causing us all to face higher Insurance Premiums at present, with Fuel costs also spiralling out of control also added into the mix. Sorry to be the prophet of doom here, but hear is an interesting fact about the “Fare Charged” rates being charged in the Private Hire Industry, did you know the Ambulance Cars used at Rake Lane etc, get an allowance of 40p a mile for the first 10000 miles then 25p a mile for every mile after, meaning £4000 for 10000 miles, £6500 for 20000 miles, £9000 for 30000 miles, or £11,500 for 40000 miles this is a Mileage Allowance as these people are Volunteers!!! Now wake up and smell the Coffee if you work Private Hire, because how much do you clear after Rent, Insurance, Vehicle Costs, etc, etc, because I bet many of you struggle to clear £11,500 tax free Gentlemen and Women? This information was released in the latest information from the Government Department in Early September 2011 stating 40p a Mile for first 10000 miles and 25p a mile every mile after, as a Tax Free Mileage Allowance, whilst considering if a Vehicle should be classed as a Private Hire Vehicle by Local Councils, I kid you not Drivers!!!!

Hello 19 year old,

I am going to give you an honest from the heart piece of advice. Forget all about becoming a Taxi or Private Hire Driver at such a young age because you will be exploited firstly by the Insurance Company who are looking for a premium of you say £8000+, as this is around £153.84p a week probably plus interest, then if you work Private Hire around £5280 or £110 a week Office Rent, then there is the Vehicle around £5200 or £100 a week, not mentioning the Repair Bills at around £1500+ a Year and Council fees of around £500 a Year. This all works out at around £20,480.00p before you put the fuel in the vehicle and this will work out at around 5000 litres to drive 40000 miles if the vehicle returns 8 miles per litre at a cost of £139.9p equals another £6995.00p a year giving a grand Total of around £27,475.00p before you make a penny for yourself as a wage. Any true and honest Private Hire Driver will tell you to drive 40000 miles a year for no wages is very foolish.

Hope you do find work in these hard times as you seem like a good lad willing to work hard & someone out there should be willing to give you a chance in life.

Thanks for reading this honest post about what the real situation is in our Trade.

you have my sympathy mate but unfortunately we are all in the same boat and its sinking fast.. i would state the obvious and say the jobs totally knackered and it is.. but its not down to lack of work its what this site is all about……. too many taxis !!!!! .. if on your £58 shift you had 50% less cars working then you would have taken over £100 but the greed and disrespect the shanksy’s of this world show dictate that he would rather take £220 of 2 cars and see you take £58 each rather than take £110 of one car and allow you ahalf decent living..under the tories and greedy bankers capitalism has reared its ugly head and its presence in the taxi business is bringing us all to our knees.. but good luck for the future.
