@SC, Some of the drivers that come on here would be more at home in the back of a Taxi rather than driving one!

EASTCOAST rip-off ????
After a night in the toon on the drink, 3 of us got an EASTCOAST private hire to go to Wallsend, it was phoned in etc. Anyway, after about half a mile or so, i noticed the meter was only showing £1-80, i commented “thats cheap” to which the driver replied “ohh forget the meter, its a set fare”, it turns out the set fare was going to be £9-50, i asked for the fare to be metered and that i would pay whatever the fare came to, basically, this was refused, and it was a case of agreeing to the £9-50 set fare, or get out, so thats what we done. I then phoned Blueline and we were soon taken to Wallsend for approx a fiver.

just a thought with tax rate cut to 15% will the big taxi offices be reducing the rent or will they pocket the difference ????IE £100.00 should now be £97.50 ???????
@taxi112, forget the £2-50 VAT cut for now (add the weeks up and DEMAND it back), will EASTCOAST please come on here and tell me how they can charge £9-50 to Wallsend ? Newcastle hack 2 rate is approx £10-00, Blueline is approx £6-00… whats going on ?

@Sam Harrington, why get a `rip off `taxi at all then….get the metro,bus,or better still walk….we don`t charge for that…as yat.
@john, The “rip off” taxi was phoned by a female friend i happened to be out with, so it was not my choice, usually i will take a hack.. (but i ask the fare first or agree a fare before i get into a hack). And as for the metro and bus services, they were long gone, it was approx 1-30AM, and for your information you do get charged for the metro and bus services, check your next council tax bill !!!!
And finally re walking, consider the risks.. get mugged, get murdered, get run over by some mad taxi (ph) driver rushing to his/her next job, no thanks mate, i will stick to getting a taxi home.

yes. and this was what was said all along when the government slashed VAT. The large stores WILL pass it on, but the smaller business’ wont.
if you ask about it you’ll probably be fed a load of trash about adminstration, fees and it not being economicly viable.

I often take people to hotels who sometimes have been charged DOUBLE the hack rate by a PH firm bringing them into the city! Those around the metro centre being a favorite of PH robbers. I ALWAYS tell them what the most the fare could be (without being stuck in traffic for weeks on end) and NOT to pay any more than that!
