A KNIFE-WIELDING fare dodger threatened to stab a taxi driver through the neck before running from his cab.
Christopher Ord had planned to flee without paying from the moment he flagged down Sadeer Ahmed in Wallsend at 2.30am.
The 18-year-old told Mr Ahmed to take him to Prudhoe and even pretended to use the helpful cabbie’s mobile to text ahead making sure cash would be waiting at the end of the 30-minute trip.
Ord instead pulled a lock knife he had hidden between his legs, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
And as he held the 4in blade to Mr Ahmed’s throat, he warned: “Let me out or I’ll put this through your neck.”
Sending the teenager to a young offender institution for six months, Judge John Evans warned: “What you did that night causes the public great concern.
“It must have been an extremely frightening experience for the victim.”
Ord, of Long Gair, Winlaton, Gateshead, admitted possessing the knife and making off without paying the pounds 37 fare.
His barrister Brian Mark told the court the teenager was “exceptionally vulnerable” and that the offence on February 15 had been completely out of character.
“He behaved in this way in a moment of madness,” Mr Mark said.

Should have booked a blueline it would only have cost him six quid.
@derwentside hack @ blueline, typical brain dead answer i would expect off a blueslim private hire driver it doesn’t matter if was going to be a £3 fare he was going do a runner anyway and why do u need a derwentside hack plate to work at blt ???? oh thats right so u can have derwentside hack rates on your meter because they dont allow u just to have the blt rate on so u can go flimping all night long lets hope your days are numbered too
@another hack driver (a real one), Typical answer from a newky hack that can only see ££££ signs in his eyes.
Derwentside hack may have extra rates on his meter but at the same time i bet he uses them in the proper way depending on what job he is picking up! ie office or rank job.And not ripping off the the punter or cherry picking……like a few of the hacks do and by no means am i tarring you all with the same brush but i wish i had a pound for every tale i have heard about a passenger being ripped off by a newky hack over the last 20 years or so.
Fair enough quite a few people exagerate a little, but £30 to the airport,£10 to jesmond???????
I came into this job because i wanted too. and i would have no qualms against my sons following me into the trade. But it p”sses me off when i hear about people being totally ripped off by members of our trade whether it be hack or ph because the punter just sees us all as the same most of the time.
@Spike, yes he will have control of which tariff he wants to use but u cant in the toon as they are all calendar meters and as 4 working from the rank cant see that happening i could be wrong but don’t think any off the out of town hacks work the legal ranks
You`ve missed the e off blueslime in actual fact it`s BLUELINE.yes you are correct in saying i have derwentside hack rates but it would not bother me if they had to be taken off cos i dont flimp. As for my days are numbered i still have my north tyneside private hire badge so i could`nt give a fook if i cant renew my plate when its due.
@derwentside hack @ blueline, so why waste your money on 2 badges /2crb checks and buying a top sign + why go to derwentside in the 1st place if u had a nt badge and plate ??
@another hack driver (a real one), derwentside badge and plate same price as nt plate used the same crb certificate plus i live in dipton(if you know where that is)no money wasted what so ever.
Bit of an old tale this!
It was in the chronny about 5/6 years ago, long before mr suleman expanded his empire.
@Spike,
Nov 2 2005 , must be a slow news week in the taxi world
@SC, Someone not got their eye on the ball here!
@Admin, Does anyone else share my view about the new proposals from the EEC that the council are going to adopt at Christmas? They told me when I rang up about it that they were only introducing the rickshaws during the holiday season and only as a ‘tourist ‘attraction.
I couldn’t even find out how much they were likely to cost the public or even who’s going to be pulling them. The only thing they were prepared to tell me was that they definitely would not be plated. This is not much of an assurance as far as I’m concerned especially if they take off with the public and the council decides to keep them on indefinitely.
I think we should all be voicing our objections right now and even the private hire should be worrying because something like a rickshaw could undercut the likes of Blueline and become the cheapest form of transport for short journeys.
is Sadeer Ahmed a north tyneside hackney carriage driver/taxi never heard of him b4 if not why has he not been done 4 illegally plying for hire
Just what I was thinking, it could only be one of them two Jokers that drive Doblo’s or the lad at my place with the 407, used to have a Passat!, if not it was a Flimper.
@Edward Douglas, A rickshaw ride from the Quayside to the Monument in December? I would pay to watch that or a couple of radgies from the Bigg Market to Elswick. No….noooooo….noooo You know this Country and it’s new ideas brigade are totally Wacky! Don’t you?
hey ricshaws mmmm i would laugh a minute there most company cars are rickshaws since most i experianced from sevral companys are sheds which are pooley matained.
ps anyone seen that dewentside car a silver passat a 03 reg 1 he has changed from blueline to la taxis but i bet he still flimps in the toon though i would like him to loose his licence 4 that as he is there all the time !!
