The North Tyneside Regulation and Review Committee met this evening at 6.00pm.
Item 3. On the agenda: Limitation of Numbers of Hackney Carriage Proprietor Licences.
Item 4. On the agenda: Variation of Hackney Carriage Fares.
The Survey Report ,presented to the committee is available to read Here: The purpose of the report is to consider whether or not the Council should continue to apply a policy of limiting the number of Hackney Carriage Proprietors Licences that it issues.
The Regulation and Review Committee granted permission on 21 February 2008 to commission a survey in North Tyneside to ascertain the current demand for Hackney Carriage Vehicles in the Borough.
The Conclusion of this survey is:
“The study has identified that there is NO evidence of significant unmet demand for hackney carriages in North Tyneside” and this evening the Regulation and Review Committee agreed.
Defining Significant Unmet Demand
The provision of evidence to aid licensing authorities in making decisions about hackney
carriage provision requires that surveys of demand be carried out. Results based on
observations of activity at hackney ranks have become the generally accepted minimum
requirement.
The Index of Significant Unmet Demand (ISUD)
North Tyneside has an ISUD Indicator value of 2 values above the 80 mark have been found to indicate significant unmet demand. So we are a long way off having any significant unmet demand. More can be read about this in the Survey Report. Section 4.3
Variation of Hackney Carriage Fares.
The proposed fare increase was agreed and put out to consultation. This means it will be posted in the Evening Chronicle or other local newspaper for a period of around 28 days to give time for any objections to be put forward.
