Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy – Consultation on Draft Policy
The council has started a formal consultation on a draft policy for hackney carriage and private hire licensing which was considered and endorsed by the Council’s Licensing and Regulatory Committee on 4th December 2009.
The policy has been developed following the reorganisation of local government in Northumberland, with the former districts and borough councils of Alnwick, Berwick, Blyth, Castle Morpeth, Tynedale and Wansbeck merging with Northumberland County Council. This resulted in the County having six zones and six different sets of terms and conditions for Hackney Carriage vehicles and a separate set for Private Hire.
The intention of the policy is to set out in a fair and transparent manner, how the Council intends to harmonise the terms and conditions across Northumberland and deal with the licensing of Hackney Carriages and Private Hire.
The consultation will run from 8 weeks from Friday 22 January – Friday 19 March 2010 and consultation events will be held at various locations during that period.
If you currently hold a hackney carriage or private hire licence, you will be invited to an event in your zone, however if you do not hold a licence and you would like to attend a consultation event, please contact Public Protection Service Tel 01670 534605 or by email ehadmin@northumberland.gov.uk to reserve a space as there are limited spaces at each event.
