Call for change to Waveney taxi licences

Representatives of the Waveney District Council Hackney Taxi Drivers’ Association made their plea to the licensing committee, and their request was turned down by councillors.

But drivers are continuing to demand action. They claim that too many licences are being granted and that this is threatening livelihoods – forcing drivers to work longer hours to make ends meet.

At the moment there are 135 licensed Hackney carriages operating in Waveney, compared to just 51 in the neighbouring Suffolk Coastal district.
