Taxi driver hurt in knife attack

A KNIFE-wielding thug attacked a taxi driver and stole £100 from his cab.

Salim Amla, aged 48, suffered cuts to his face and hand when two passengers turned on him.

Mr Alma, who is a driver for United Taxis in St Helens Road, Daubhill, picked up the two men at around 2am yesterday in Castle Street, The Haulgh.

They asked to be taken to Asda in Manchester Road, Bolton, but then told him to stop in Croft Lane, Burnden.

“Suddenly, the one in the back put his hand over my mouth and put a knife to my head,” said Mr Amla, from Deane.

The father-of-three suffered a puncture wound above his left eye and cuts to his hand when he tried to defend himself.
