Hi,  Les here in Manchester.

Thanks for your help last week. It never rains but it pours here in Manchester.
The following cab has appeared on the streets of Manchester Today Wed 21.
It is an old TX1 liveried in yellow, advertising a local private hire
company. Note they use the words “private hire Taxi” along the top of
the doors.

This is obviously Illegal, but Manchester Council say it is O.K.

Imagine if this “contagion” spread to other Cities. Private hire
companies could buy an old TX livery it and park it outside their
offices. This drive’s a hole through all Licensing and Planning laws.

We will be shortly going to the High Court on a similar matter, this
needs to be addressed as well.

Use the Pic/Story if you wish. I will keep you updated.

Les.

First question,
Is the TX a Licensed Taxi or Private Hire Vehicle by the Local Council or is it an unlicensed vehicle being used as an Advertising Vehicle Only?

Need to have the clear picture of what the vehicle is Mate?

Who owns the vehicle is my second question, is it a Hackney Carriage Taxi Proprietor Driver making money from advertising on his or her vehicle, or is the Licensed Taxi owned by the Private Hire Proprietor Personally?

Awaiting your answers to the above questions.

This is an unlicensed private vehicle owned by a licensed private hire firm as an advertisement tool.

It clearly states on all sides “This is not a Taxi & is not For Hire”

Like to hear your views…

I think this says it all.

Greater Manchester Act 1981.

167.-(l) Except as provided in subsection (2) below, as from Signs on
the appointed day in any district, there shall not be displayed vehicles.
in the district on or from any motor vehicle constructed or
adapted to seat more than two and less than eight passengers,
not being a hackney carriage or public service vehicle-
(a) any sign, notice, mark, illumination or other feature
which, having regard to the time and place at which it
is displayed and to any other circumstances, may
suggest to a person seeking to hire a private hire vehicle
or a hackney carriage that the vehicle is used for the
purpose of carrying passengers for hire or reward;

To be honest i think people are making a mountain out of a molehill, it has been stated that this vehicle is privately owned and NOT registered as a taxi or as a private hire vehicle. Therefore a private car for personal use only. Taxis and private hire advertise on lots of different medium, papers, cards, websites, buses, vans, billboards etc.. this is just another form of advertising, and a very clever one at that.

If people have taken issue with this that it seems they are either jealous they didnt think of it or are threatened that a company has come up with a brilliant advertising plan.

No one stops hackney drivers adverting on any medium or on there own vehicles, and they advertise everything from taxis to alcohol.. so whats wrong with a private hire taxi firm advertising?

Anyone who runs a business or is self employed has the right to earn a living.. its a shame that a lot of hackney drivers feel threatened by people trying to run a successfull business, maybe if the tables were turned and you had restrictions placed on your business by people who are in the SAME TRADE as you you would understand…

AND YES PRIVATE HIRE AND TAXI ARE IN THE SAME BUSINESS.. its a shame the hackney drivers cant see that, cos i know hackney drivers that have driven private hire, and private hire that have driven hackney…

In my opinion .. concentrate on your own life and business and live n let live.. for petes sake its a brilliant form of advertising.. you gotta admit that.. after all .. everyones talking about it..!!!!

Except it’s illegal to make a vehicle look like a Taxi when it is not a Taxi!

It would be a shame if a “successful business” was not allowed to prosper. However a companies house search on company no 05834881 will show that this is not a “successful” company.
the earlier poster, Bilal, was until earlier this year company secretary he has the company in a right mess, Instead of advertising gimics the company should try to reduce their £54 grand overdraft, before the VAT man shuts them down.

Last month I posted a picture of Manchester cars Private hire, using a liveried TX as an advertising vehicle.
After much debate upon your web site( and others) Manchester council have ORDERED the vehicle off the road. It is now located in a city centre garage for sale for 4 grand, as it is an X reg worth around 1 grand, I believe this fly by night company have well had their a*se smacked on this one.

Many thanks for all your help.
